The three types of online roulette

European roulette (virtual table)

French roulette (La Partage)

Also uses a 37-number wheel, but with the La Partage rule: if the ball lands on zero, simple bets (red/black, odd/even, high/low) get half the stake back instead of losing everything. This lowers the house edge to 1.35% on those bets — the lowest of the three formats.

The house edge changes depending on the format and bet type. Here are the published numbers for each version:

European roulette — simple bets and straight numbers 2.70% house edge (RTP 97.30%)
French roulette — simple bets with La Partage 1.35% house edge (RTP 98.65% on those bets)
Live roulette — same European format, with a real dealer 2.70% house edge (RTP 97.30%)

Common strategies and what they actually do

Martingale (doubling the bet after a loss) and Fibonacci (progressive sequence) are bankroll management systems — neither changes the mathematical probability of each spin, because roulette has no memory. Each spin is independent of the previous one. These systems only change the pace at which the balance rises or falls, and can drain it faster during losing streaks.
